Movie Review–The Adjustment Bureau

I saw this movie when it was first in the theaters, but it has recently been premiered on HBO and I was able to see it a second time, and a sixths as of this post.   I will be honest, the first time I enjoyed it but the second time it moved me so much.  It has so many messages of hope and romance and strength I just had to share and encourage everyone to watch this movie.

So the plot:  On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt) – a woman like none he’s ever known. But just as he realizes he’s falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart. David learns he is up against the agents of Fate itself – the men of The Adjustment Bureau – who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together.  Fate has a different plans for him and realizes he wants something els, he must pursue across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York the only woman he’s ever loved. In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path…or risk everything to defy Fate and be with her.

Okay, you have to admit it sounds good.  The idea of Fate, the wanting of a passionate love, love at first sight even(which I’m still on the fence on), and determination to make things happen.  I can’t say why I was less than thrilled on first viewing. I’m realizing I have done that with many movies(Harry Potter to name one) but I’m glad either through genuine interests or sheer boredom, I watch some movies more than once and finally get it.

Emily Blunt is one of my favorite young actresses.  I mean she was amazing in The Devil Wears Prada, which was her breakout role, but as I love period movies, The Young Victoria told me all I needed to know about her talent.  Matt Damon, always solid, put in a very nice performance making the duo very very believable.

Two side notes:

  • Worldwide gross $127,869,370–The Hangover 2…$581,464,305.  Substance isn’t profitable it seems.
  • Supporting actor Michael Kelly is in this movie who I think is very hot. Go to IMBD-Michael Kelly to see more.
