What is Love?

I have to admit I have been addicted to Jennifer Lopez’s latest album.  It has club bangers and it’s obvious she finally received some vocal lessons. Some of the songs you can barely tell it’s J.Lo because it lacked her harsh emphasis on the wrong syllables and choppy singing style. But the point is it’s good and my favorite song is  What is Love? The song got me thinking. It’s an age old questions but being in love currently, it is that much more poignant. But it turned from what is love to when does love become dangerous.

(1) : strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties <maternal love for a child> (2) : attraction based on sexual desire : affection and tenderness felt bylovers (3) : affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests <love for his old schoolmates>b : an assurance of affection <give her my love>
: warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion <love of the sea>
a : the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration<baseball was his first love>(1) : a beloved person : darling —often used as a term of endearment (2) British —used as an informal term of address
a : unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another: as (1) : the fatherly concern of God for humankind(2) : brotherly concern for othersb : a person’s adoration of God
: a god or personification of love
: an amorous episode : love affair
: the sexual embrace : copulation
The definition leaves out how love can be dangerous.  It’s an extreme emotion like rage.  Love can change into obsession.  You believe your world has to include the object of your love.  You do anything and everything to keep that love in your life even to the point you damage yourself.  Who is to say that isn’t real love as well?
Words, very tricky things those words like emotions.  I’d like to think it’s all an individual thing but let’s keep love the joy it’s meant to be.  I have fallen victim to putting the object of my love before my own well being.  Just a note, it only destroys the love you share.  Can an acknowledgement and a promise to be true to love and true to yourself keep it alive. Let’s just say I hope so.
